Driving In Bad Weather

Many people honestly do not know how to drive in bad weather. Although I’m not an expert, I do live in Michigan. And I’ve had the pleasure of driving at night when the roads were in terrible condition, while it’s still heavily snowing.
Tip #1
Drive carefully. Don’t automatically assume it’s okay to do a certain speed. If you’ve seen people driving by your house doing 20mph, let that be hint to you that you should probably leave the house early for any appointments and give yourself extra time to get places. Once you’re out on the road, do not go faster than feels comfortable. Stay aware of the road conditions ahead of you and unless the road is clear, assume their is probably ice.
Tip #2
Do not slam on the breaks. If it’s icy, slamming on your brakes could be the worst thing you could do. When you have a turn or a need to slow down, start braking a little sooner than you usually would. With ice on the road, your car will need that extra time to come to a stop or reach the right speed for turning.
Tip #3
If you find yourself on a patch of ice, lay off the gas and let your car gain control. If you’re on ice, your tires are not getting the grip they need. Hitting the gas or laying on the brake will not help you out any.
Tip #4
Pay full attention to your driving. Most of all, hang up the phone. Don’t take this moment to try to get a hold of anyone. If you don’t have a headset for your phone, consider checking out FreeHeadSet.org.
