Easy Eye Wear Care

2 June 2008 2 Comments

I’ve been wearing glasses since 5th grade, so lets just say that I do know something about taking care of eye glasses. These are a few things that I have learned over the years that will hopefully get a new eye glass wearer started out in the right direction.

  • It’s not a waste of money, get a special soft cloth to wipe off the lenses. If you use something too rough, the lenses will scratch. Even scratch resistant lenses scratch.
  • You can always spend your money on special lens solution, or use rubbing alcohol. A last option would probably be every day water. Whatever will remove a ’spot’ in your vision. On the go I’ve even used a spit shine on my lenses.
  • Rain-X. It works great for your windshield. I’ve used it on my glasses. Rubbed on it gives itself a waterproof quality. Rain will just bead up and run off rather than leaving big wet dots. A great option for someone who finds themselves stuck in the rain more often than they’d like.
  • The next step up from Rain-X would be their anti-fog glass treatment. Once again, for windshields but a life saver on glasses. Another product I have applied to my own eye glass lenses and it works. It reduces the fog problem. Especially great in the winter when walking from the outdoors into a warm house can cause them to fog up and not stop fogging up until you’ve wiped them 2-3 times (or is that just me?).
  • Industrial strength craft glue can be a life saver on plastic frames. They can break, it happens. A good strong glue can extend the life of the frames until a new pair of glasses can be puchased.

These are things I have learned in my time, and should be able to help out the person who has to wear eye glasses regularly. Most of all, good luck. They can suck at first… but with time it’s something that you’ll get used to.

That’s hilarious you’ve had those glasses for so long. My husband’s gone through two pairs this WEEK! Literally. I’m going to send him this article to help him out.

Ritas last blog post..Lots of money to be made Selling Extraterrestrial properties

I’ve had more than one pair since 5th grade. :) But my current pair I’ve had for over 3 years now. I wouldn’t need new glasses as often if my prescription wouldn’t stop getting worse.

I’ve had my mishaps, too. When I was 14 I got hit in the face with an oar and my glasses fell in the lake. I’m not a miracle worker, but those tips are just general advice to make life wearing glasses go by a little easier.

How to Care for Your Reading Glasses

No matter which style you choose, some basic care will be required to minimize lens scratches and keep the frame and nose pads clean.
Wet lenses on both sides before wiping clean
Always use a soft, 100% cotton cloth (not a shirt!)
Launder the cleaning cloth regularly to remove debris
Always use an approved cleaner, or soap and water
Wash the entire frame in warm soapy water when dirty
Have plastic nose pads replaced often
Always store glasses in the case provided
Never leave glasses in a hot car or direct sunlight
Have your glasses adjusted every few months to ensure comfort
