3 Things To Remember When Looking For Work

7 September 2008 No Comment

What can I say? If it was easy for someone to find employment, then the country wouldn’t be walking through the beginnings of a recession.

With more layoffs happening, and fewer jobs opening up, it’s nearly impossible to find something that will fit your skills without making you over-qualified for what people do want. Although you can’t help stop layoffs and the lack of jobs, you can put yourself out there in the market.

1. Flattery is great, but don’t flat out lie!

Great, you want to get noticed. The way to do that would be to put your accomplishments in the best light possible. Showing off the positive things about you does not mean you need to lie about your abilities. If you have an inability that you’re afraid will hold you back, you have the right to not mention it until the interview OR talk about how easily you catch on when being taught new tasks. That shows initiative.

2. Get your resume professionally done.

That includes having someone help you write up your resume and having it professionally printed. Most employers are looking for someone who puts out a professional impression, it’s up to you to make sure you look as professional as possible on your resume.

3. Consider going back to school.

If it seems that no matter how hard you try there is nothing out there for you, go back to school. Get a degree in some other area that would benefit and interest you. There is almost always a need for more RNs to assist doctors. That may take 2 years but once you have the degree then you are ready to enter the business world and the rise in pay will benefit you. It doesn’t hurt to look at all possibilities if your current expertise seems to be a dead end.
