What Effect Has The Economy Had On You?

22 December 2008 One Comment

At this point in time, we are officially in a recession. So now what? Many individuals have found themselves unemployed and potentially out of a home because of the slumping economy. On the other hand there are people who only consider this decline as a thorn in their side. Sure, the price of gas may be down by dollars from where it was just a little earlier this year but so many people have lost their jobs over the last few months that they don’t care. Who can afford gas at any price when they are unemployed?

The reality is that some people have been able to see this as a glass half full situation. If you take this moment to see the positive in what is happening, you will too.

Facing Unemployment?

Rather than seeing your position as unemployed, look at it as an opportunity. For some, this might be the right time to seek employment elsewhere in a position that you could have been working towards. Maybe you’ve never truly felt alive working for others, then this might be the right time to start your own business. Either way you want to look at it, moping over your job loss will only dig the hole deeper. You’ll need to be proactive before you can get anywhere.

Receive A Cut In Pay?

Rather than fight to pay your bills, cut back. You need to be smart about what you can manage on your income. Maybe you should consider only one car for the household or you could cut back your TV package to a smaller option. This is when it’s time to teach yourself about the necessities in life.

Remember coupons? Most people hate to use them, yet it will save you money. Collect coupons, plan ahead and shop smart. You would be surprised at how much you can save per month by simply shopping with sales and discounts. Also, there is nothing wrong with an off brand. They are cheaper because they go unadvertised. In most cases the off brand item tastes or looks a lot like the name brand product, leaving you with no real difference other than the cost.

While you’re trying to cut back on expenses, don’t forget to save money too. As hard as it might be, you still need to save for an emergency. You’ll thank me later if you ever need to fix something on your car in a hurry.

Are You Unaffected By The Poor Economy?

I wouldn’t believe that for a minute. I would almost bet that you’ve seen someone else feel the pain from what is happening around you. Just because it hasn’t directly affected you, your business, or your job, you have felt a bit of the sting.

Either way, you are lucky to have been able to sail through with the security of a continual income to back you up and a home to live in, so do something for others. This is a good time to donate a little something, if you can, to your local food bank or homeless shelter. Many employed individuals are finding themselves homeless and there are not enough shelters to keep them all safe. This doesn’t mean you should run out and buy everyone a house, but a few dollars can go a long way when others are just scraping to get by.

You bring up some very useful points. One thing I think a great many people forget about is that a recession – no matter how serious it may be – is never permanent. In fact, more often than not we as a country have sprung back after a recession to be stronger than we were before the recession. I feel when people face difficult times in any respect they (myself included) tend to forget that the times are almost never unending. Thanks for helping people to get through this difficult time a little bit easier.

Oh, and thanks for the photo cred. It’s very much appreciated :)
