What Does Your Logo Say About You?

19 May 2009 No Comment

I don’t officially have a logo but what I do have has some color, that happens to match my theme, and offers a little tagline that describes what I do.  Because AngelaShupe.com is a collection of articles and blog postings by me, it works well with what the website is about.

My logo tells people, quite literally, that I am a work-at-home mom, a freelance writer, and a virtual assistant.  That is exactly what I want it to say.  However, this article isn’t about me.  We’re here to talk about you.

What does your logo tell the customer?  Your logo should reassure your customer about your services or product.  If it doesn’t, then your logo isn’t doing it’s job.  If you don’t know what it says, survey people and ask them what they think.

Look at the wording.  Not just what it says but how it flows.  The words should mesh well with the other counterparts in your logo.  You don’t want to overpower everything else in the image but you still want to make a statement.  Should your words flow around the central part of your logo?  Maybe they should hang loose below it?  Either way, if they’re not the center of the action, don’t force them to be.

Choose your design wisely.  Just because a white water rafting company wants to use a drawing-like version of the rapids in their logo does not mean it would be a good choice for a crayon company.  You don’t want to misrepresent your business by choosing the wrong image for your logo.  If you have a hard time deciding on one idea, draw up a couple and choose the best candidate when it is over.

Of course it won’t destroy your company if you end up choosing the wrong logo.  However, imagine how much good the right logo would do for you?
