Happy Labor Day, Now Lets Get To Work On A Special Day For Us
By "us" I mean all of the entrepreneurs and small business owners of the world.
Did you know that the first Labor Day was on September 5th in 1882 in New York City? It was in 1884 that President Grover Cleveland turned it into an official holiday.
Now that covers all of the employees in the US and Canada, what about us? I think it is about time we create a holiday for those of us that work hard at creating our own businesses!
Of course Jim Blasingame has his own theory, one that I would be willing to run with:
Let’s celebrate Small Business Day in a way no other national holiday has been established: on a Sunday, because that would create the least payroll expense.
August is the month-of-choice because that’s when politicians are home on recess. This way they can practice casting their pearls before us small business owners in preparation for eating barbecue with the workers on Labor Day.
Not that anyone would really relax. If you’re anything like me, would you really have the time to stop and celebrate anyway?
