I always feel a sense of excitement, pride even, when I interview a self-made entrepreneur that also happens to be a mom.
Today I had the opportunity to post an interview I had done with one such woman on a client’s website. She saw an opportunity and grabbed at it. Now she is working hard to grow a business while raising a family.
I admire the determination that mompreneurs have. It’s not easy to make it all work, believe me I know, but yet these women still do it. Its simply amazing.
That’s …

Some people don’t like smart phones and some only use iPhones. I, however, can vouch for the Blackberry.
Approximately one week ago I updated to a Blackberry. It is a great addition for this freelancer that needs to stay on top of her clients needs. Instead of not responding to a client for hours or even days because I am unavailable, I can message them back in minutes. Of course it isn’t all work, the wordpress app makes it possible for me to update directly from my phone at any time. …

I am in school and freelancing. As you can imagine that means my schedule can get a little ridiculous. Between my livelihood and something I am determined to do (and do well), I simply lose track of time.
Before I decided to go to college my days were pretty balanced. I had the time I needed for an extracurricular activity or two, work and plenty of time to spend with my daughter. Now that I’m getting used to the change of pace that school has required me …

Today I was sitting at the coffee shop trying to get some schoolwork done when I met a nice lady from out of town and struck up a conversation with her. She asked me about school and what degree I was going for, as it turns out she has her BS in nursing. She went on to say that a business degree is a great thing to have because there are so many opportunities for people that specialize in it.
That wasn’t the first time I’ve heard someone talk …

American Chronicle, Featured »
As I get back behind the keyboard to start writing again, I decided to kick things off with a new article at the American Chronicle. This time I take a look at the rise in popularity for direct sales (as employment opportunities continue to wane) and offer a few tips to those that might be considering that type of opportunity.
At a time when employment seems to be the unsecured option, some people have decided to take their income into their own hands. In business and, more specifically, in …

What was originally thought of as a mom and pop business with an employee or two is being redefined as the recession rages on. That same business might simply be mom or pop now. Also known as the single employee small business, it leaves you — the owner — as that employee.
According to news-press.com, business owners are piling on new titles. They’re accountants, receptionists, marketing specialists, custodians, and at times they’re the only investor.
Contrary to this news the freelance industry proves otherwise. As businesses try to save money where they …

While I was working on an article for the American Chronicle (not yet published) that talks about creating a business out of a hobby I came up with an interesting byproduct: potential hobby-to-business ideas. Since I can’t use them in the article I decided to share them here. Starting with…

You can’t really calculate the potential success of… oh wait, I guess you can.
A post on Entrepreneur Daily Dose brings to light a new calculator that may actually calculate the odds of whether your business will or will not succeed.
The Odds Of Success calculator, which was created by StartupNation.com, is said to be able to tell you how likely you are (or are not) to succeed by using 8 factors: the investment, difficulty obtaining funds, quality of the financial management, the degree of business planning used, the annual growth rate, …

Who would have thought a murder mystery party idea could turn into a possible business? Apparently Rae Walaska of Port Orchard. She was right!
