Handling Bad Interviews
‘m pretty sure that if you’ve ever had to go looking for a job, you’ve had atleast one bad interview. I have. A bad interview brings up some tough choices. Do you just suffer through and hope they don’t call? Do you make snide remarks back? How are you supposed to handle it?
I recently suffered the worlds worst interview this past Monday. The only good that came from it was the idea for this topic. If I’ve had to suffer through one, then their are probably plenty of people that have had to go through it as well.
While in the interview, if you notice it going down hill, consider how badly you want the job. Would you have to be around this person every day you are at work? Will they be your boss, or will you get the benefit of not having to work with them? If they are going to be working closely with you, if you got the job, would you be able to do it? Answering these questions can help you decide weither or not you want to tolerate the person interviewing you at that moment.
If you were to decide this isn’t a job you are interested in anymore, then how should you handle the way this person is talking to you? Obviously we all have our own tolerance level for getting irritated by someone, so keep that explosion point in mind. And in check. Obviously, they won’t be talking to someone when you apply at another job - so you don’t have to worry about any bad referance if you do get a bit snarky back. On the other hand, you will come out the better person if you bite your tounge and just get out of the interview as soon as possible. That choice is yours, but if you want to keep up your practice with interviews, it would probably be the best choice to just let what they do that urks you go in one ear, out the other. That way you come out as a good person, and someone that would have been worth having work there.
