Building A Successful Blog

If you’re just starting out, you might not know what it takes to start on your way to a successful blog.  That is where I come in to help you out.  I may not know everything their is to create the best blog on the intraweb, I do know a few basics to get you started!

1st Step

Write about something interesting.  If you want a well read blog, you’ll either need an interesting life or some other topic to write about.  Blogs about the going ons of famous people tend to do really well.  If that’s something that interests you, go for it.  No matter what though, write about something you enjoy.  If you don’t enjoy what you’re writing about, then how can you be expected to keep it up regularly?

2nd Step

Consider having your own domain and host.  You can get away with just having a blog at some site like blogger, but by having your own domain and host… it automaticly ups ya a notch in other peoples eyes and in the eyes of most search engines.  I think they really like that fact that you’re not just another “blogger” page or “livejournal”.

3rd Step

This would probably work best after you’ve built up some content, but visit other blogs.  This is a great way to bring in some regular readers, and you might find some blogs that are worth having you stop by regularly.  When you visit, don’t forget to leave a comment.  In general, they have a section where you can put in your URL… do it.  That way people will stop by and check out your blog as well!

4th Step

Consider trying out some traffic exchanges.  Expecially Blog Explosion.  They’re not just an exchange, they’re a form of community with other great bloggers there.  Add your blog, surf other blogs, enter your blog into the battle of the blogs, play a game, or put your site up at the blog rocket.  They also have a chat area, if you’re feeling a little chatty.

If you want more than one traffic exchange, though, check out blogmad or even google to see if you can find any others.

5th Step

Link exchanges.  If you ever come across a blog that has content related to your site, ask them if they’re willing to do link exchanges.  Chances are, they will be very friendly and willing.  The more people that link to you, the higher your PR will go!

So those are the basics.  From there you’ll have to do as I do and learn from experiance.  That’s not bad, though.  Blogging is supposed to be fun.  Learning as you go along is part of the fun.
