Fixing Broken Glasses

Yesterday my daughter broke the arm off my glasses and it made me think that maybe I could do a quick post with advice on fixing your glasses when all things seem lost.

As a short disclaimer: These tips won’t make your glasses pretty, and they’re not a permanent fix. You’ll want to get a new pair of glasses as soon as possible, but these tips can work temporarily.

Plastic Frames

If you broke your plastic framed glasses, I think this might be the easiest fix possible. All you need is industrial strength craft glue. I used it, and it has worked out great for me to far.

Put a big dollop of glue on one side of the break and push the two broke pieces together and hold it. Depending on the break placement, you shouldn’t have to hold it too long. Once it’s dry enough to hold itself in place, put a little extra glue going around the crack the best you can. Then set it down in a place where nothing will touch the glue and let it dry over night - mine sat for 8 hours and it was completely dry when I woke up.

Metal Frames

I do not own metal frames, but this is something a friend of mine had done and it helped him.

Weld it. Using a welding gun, or having a friend who can use one, just weld together the broken spots and let cool. There you go!

I would like to reinforce that this will not make your glasses look pretty, but it is an effective temporary fix for those that find themselves in this bind. Good luck!
