Buying A Used Vehicle

I was recently thinking about how many car and truck dealers get away with selling a used car that’s a lemon because so many people don’t do certain things that could have saved them from buying something that is near the end of it’s life. I may not be a professional, but I do know a few things that you should consider doing before you buy a used vehicle from anywhere.

Tip #1

Get recommendations. Rather than just going to any used car dealer, ask around. Find out what your friends and family would recommend. The more a place is recommended the more likely it is that the cars they’ll sell are not lemons.

Tip #2

Bring someone who knows about cars with you. If you have a friend or family member that knows a lot about cars, bring them with you when you go to look at the car. They can tell you by checking out different things what type of driving condition the car is in.

If you don’t know someone who can do that for you, ask if the car can be looked at by your mechanic or a body shop that does free estimates. That way they can tell you everything that is wrong with the car, and the cost of what it would be to get such a thing fixed before you buy it.

I must warn you, if you don’t have it looked at, chances are you will buy a car that has major problems on the inside. Even if it looks great on the outside. Of course, if you know something when it comes to fixing cars yourself, then use your own judgment.

Tip #3

Don’t judge a book by it’s cover. This goes back to what I said at the very end of tip #2. Even if the car looks great on the outside, that doesn’t mean a thing when it comes to the condition it will run in. It’s looks will not get you back and forth to work. Worry more about the condition of your engine and such.

Everyone should try to be smart when it comes to purchasing a car. It is a big thing and it’s something you should make sure you do right.

Tip #4
Prepare all the forms before-hand so both the buyer and the seller know exactly what terms their agreeing to. This will prevent the seller calling the buyer later on making complaints.
