Oktoberfest in Munich, the worlds most famous beer festival takes place every year in September and October . This is where the most fanciful German stereotypes are brought to bewildering and beguiling life. To the locals, it is not called Oktoberfest, but “die Wiesn” – after the colloquial name of the fairgrounds themselves. It is a very lively festival , the event is notable with burly, moustached men from all over Europe slurping down litre sized servings of frothy beer.
Its also the world’s largest fair and one of the best in Germany. Every year,over six million people from all over the world come to this place with nothing more than drinking beer with friends and family in their agendas. This festival is extremely famous for its fuzzy beers in heavy steins and mugs. Since 1950 there has been a traditional opening for this festival- A twelve gun salute and the tapping of the first keg of Oktoberfest beer.
The country during this part of the year is in the mood of extreme festivities,the best thing to do might be , to swing to the oompha of Bavarian bands,admire traditional German dances and costumes and enjoy a glass if cool beer.
But be warned, this isn’t just a bunch of party tents with lots of beer,by traveling to this “volksfest” by the locals, you’ve agreed to the entire concept,the Germans call “crunched into your skull by a sandomasochistic Bavarian mistress”.
History of the Oktober fest dates back to 1810 as a celebration of the marriage of Kind Ludwig to ana innocent princess names Theresa. Traditional visitors from Germany wear Bavarian hats (Tirolerhüte) which contains a tuft of goat hair.
